Bead what?

Beadothicary. It's a play on a word, specifically "apothecary".  An apothecary is an archaic term for pharmacist, or "one who prepares and sells medications". Therefore, a beadothicary is one who makes and sells beads. Or, as in my case, gives them away. I am not an instructor.

Most of my old beadwork is on my old page: Thistle Rose Studio

My teen calls me the "glassbender", which is taken from one of her favorite shows, "Avatar, the Last Airbender", where people can be air benders, or water benders, or what have you. So, I will frequently refer to my hobby as "glassbending".

I consider my bead work to be more than a hobby, but isn't a business. It's therapy. I am a disabled homemaker with a fantastic hubby and lovely teenager.  I have disabilities that make working outside the home difficult and some of my previous hobbies almost as difficult, and some of those that I don't do much anymore include cooking & food preservation, knitting, crochet, woodworking, stained glass work, and sewing. Glass bead making, I have found, is easy on the hands and very relaxing, if a rather expensive hobby. It's still cheaper than traditional therapy. At my torch, it's me, the glass, and music. The world has left the building.

My studio is set up in our laundry room.  Pictures on the Studio page.  More about how I do things on my Favs and Info page.

Of myself, I'm a transplanted Californian, in my early 50's, and live in the country in Tennessee with my family and three cats: Ginger, Rose, and Oreo. I'm rather a zen person (hippy/gypsy) but I don't suffer fools gladly. I like glassbending, beadwork, wirework, leather work, cosplay, contradance, and working out (weight lifting mostly with my living room turned into a gym. Seriously. I'm training to be a personal trainer). I love dragons and steampunk, natural real foods and wholesome living. Comedy is a big thing in our house and we watch (and practice) a lot of it. I deal with fibromyalgia, lupus, osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, sciatica, and some others.  We frequent Scottish games and Renaissance festivals in garb (traditional dress/costumes). My hubby is retired Air Force and loves politics and airplanes, and originally from London, England. My teen is a gamer-geek, YouTube junkie, with a love of Anime' and Manga, ninja arts, swimming and gymnastics. We practice radical unschooling.

Why? Because I can.
